Ok, so you don’t hunt or fish, wildflowers don’t make your heart skip a beat, horseback riding is great for cowboys, and hiking…forget it! I bet you eat. And one of natures most amazing gifts are the fruits that occur naturally and in abundance on public lands. Years ago I got interested in all the berries I saw in the mountains and wondered to myself which ones can I eat? Well I am here to tell you, there are a bunch of edible berries in the woods. The most recognizable is the wild raspberry which grows quite readily in the high Uinta’s. The wild raspberry looks just like a regular raspberry you would find at the store, but sometimes they are quite a bit smaller. There are a bunch of other edible berries in the woods and I wood recommend you pic up a book on wild berries and get the kids out into the woods and find some of mother nature’s treasures. My favorite berry recipe is pick a cupful of wild raspberries by picking one and putting in the cup and the next 2 go in your mouth, 1 in cup 2 in mouth…I think you get the idea:) Put what manages to make it in a cup in a batch of pancake mix and have wild raspberry pancakes…they are delicious. Get out and pick some berries and share your recipes with us.
